Cleanrooms and controlled environments (operating rooms, neonatal intensive care units, isolation rooms for transplant patients, pharmaceutical production areas, and electronics and aerospace facilities) are spaces where the physical and biological properties of the air are held within very tight limits. The smallest deviation in particle count, pressure differential, temperature, humidity, or HEPA filter performance can contaminate a pharmaceutical product, cause a post-surgical infection, or disrupt a sensitive production process. ISO 14644, GMP guidelines, and Ministry of Health requirements all mandate periodic certification of these environments.
